My daughter Eleanor was born in April 2015. She was born with a heart condition which meant we had to restrict her fluid intake so for me this meant expressing breastmilk 8x per day. I knew about milk donation from my involvement with a local charity (Mummy’s Star) and knew a family that benefited from donor milk when the mother was unable to breastfeed due to chemotherapy. As I produced more milk than my daughter was allowed, it seemed like a natural step to donate the extra milk to vulnerable babies. It was a simple registration process and gave me a good feeling to know that precious milk was doing some good. Plus, since I was unable to donate blood whilst pregnant/breastfeeding I felt like this was a way to assuage the debt!
